Guanajuato

Sampled some coffee from a local spot named for a cat. Coffee and cats – sounds about right for me.

Nothing fancy here – the fruit of the cactus comes in two flavors. A bit like watermelon but with more and smaller seeds.

Stopped by this woman’s setup to admire the buckets of corn that have been prepared for the very popular pozole.

Hard to beat a fresh gordita right off the griddle.

Next stop was some homemade fruit juice. Pretty tasty.

The people of Guanajuato are big baseball fans. We were always seeing kids in uniform walking through the city. This is the stadium for the local team! Have to go to a game next time.

Went on a food tour and the first stop was a bakery. We got to watch them make the bread. It’s a wood fire oven that incorporates steam when baking the bread. The wooden stick he is using here is almost as long as the room!

On the way back from the Mezcal tasting, we were treated to a beautifully lit basilica.

While we were sitting at the bar, the maker of the moonshine Mezcal came by to drop off more bottles. Juan could not have been nicer and he even shared a shot of his own creation with us!

Armando had us try some Mezcal that wasn’t exactly legal – it had everything regular Mezcal had except the government labels. Great stuff!
