A river used to run through here – but now they pipe the water underground and use the original channel for the famous tunnels.

The famous theater in town – the blue screen kind of ruins the classic look, but they kept fiddling with it – this was the best shot. The place can hold 1,000 people over 4 levels – had to be insanely loud when full.

The theater still has the original parlor with ashtrays and everything.

Can’t do a food tour without tamales – she had mole ones too.

Statue commemorating the father of mariachi. He sounds a lot like the Mexican John Wayne. The dog in the picture followed us for a good part of our tour – she just wanted some love!

They love their Don Quixote here – even though he has nothing to do with the city. They even have a museum here with an entire collection of Quixote stuff donated by a rich collector. We didn’t really see what the big deal was, but this certainly was a grand monument.

Sampled some coffee from a local spot named for a cat. Coffee and cats – sounds about right for me.

Nothing fancy here – the fruit of the cactus comes in two flavors. A bit like watermelon but with more and smaller seeds.

Stopped by this woman’s setup to admire the buckets of corn that have been prepared for the very popular pozole.

Hard to beat a fresh gordita right off the griddle.
